| Damned If We Do . . .A Novel
|
|
Most Americans saw World War II through stories in the media and through stories brought home by their relatives and friends who served in other countries. Damned if We Do is a story of uncertain origin; "factitious," the writer has been heard referring to it. Thus, the reader is left to wonder which parts of the adventure, if any, are fact, and which (again, if any) are fiction. Did the sixty-year-old journal exist? The writer, when asked, usually answers with "What do you think? Is the book's source purely the author's imagination? Is it a fictionalized history? Or is it, as some readers claim, truly a story based on a miniscule amount of historical documentation? Should you choose to read the book, you would draw your own conclusion -- one way or another. The link below provides excerpts from the book that will expose you to some of the "flavor" of the doings of two German soldiers on American soil intent on disrupting our war effort. |
