Here at Mountain Voice Publishers we like to talk about our
books and our publishing business. And we love chatting about
these beautiful Appalachian Mountains, the people in them, and
the things the people in them are doing. We talk with local
folks and we talk with folks from other places who are visiting
for a spell, or who are just passing through.
A few miles from our place is the spectacular Nantahala Gorge.
Real often, we go there and perch at one of the picnic tables
along the bank of the river. Usually, it isn’t long before
somebody shows up. (It’s awfully hard to pass by some of those
places without stopping and soaking up the serenity.) In a
minute, we’re talking. Every now and then, the conversation
worms around to a discussion about our books, the stories in
them, and the people who populate the pages. Yes, we explain
to our newfound friend that the characters in the stories are
"homogenized" personalities in "factitional" situations, and how
authentic both could be. Just about everyone has known
somebody like Aunt Nica or Az Stoker, or even ol’ Reek Moore.
And there’s very few who don’t remember a place to match Rail
Cove.
Well, we might not get to talk to you, the reader of these
pages, face to face, but we can visit through the magic of the
internet. Drop us a line. We’ll answer. Tell us what you like (or
don’t like) about our website and what we’ve had to say in it.
Hopefully, you will have read at least one of our books. If that’
s the case, let’s talk about what you think about the stories and
the characters, and the messes some of them get into.
Below is a comment box you can use to write to us. The author,
Bill Carver, is a bit of a character himself. He looks at life
through the lenses of "a good story to hear and tell." He'll jaw-
jack with you til the creek runs backward.
The editor, Howard Massey, is somewhat leveled-out. He likes
to tinker with words and such, but he won’t try to fix it if it ain’
t broke.
Other members of the staff (there’s a few) will chat with you
on just about anything having to do with writing books,
publishing them, peddling them, and seeing that our customers
are well cared for.
And we all just love to yak about the goings on in these
wonderful Appalachian Mountains -- be they from the
yesterdays, today, or even the ever-marvelous tomorrows.
So click in the box and drop us a note. By the way, we
guarantee by Grandma’s whippin’ stick and our reputation that
your email address (or anything else about you) won’t go outside
these walls.
